Partnership Announcement

Northern British Columbia Tourism Association (NBCTA) and the seven northern Community Futures announced today that the organizations have entered a formal partnership, working collaboratively to support businesses in the Northern BC region through the COVID19 pandemic.

Community Futures Programs

Many businesses have been or will be affected by Covid 19 and the recent mill closures in the region.

Businesses are a foundation to any community and key to a community’s success. When businesses can’t operate or have operated at reduced levels due to an emergency situation, we know they require support to get them back on track.

The Regional Business Liaison works with businesses,and stakeholders to access and benefit from economic resources and programs available in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Taking Care of Business

Has your businesses or enterprising Not-For-Profits been impacted by permanent mill closures, the Taking Care of Business Program may be able to help!

Taking Care of Business – A Community Futures Program, brings funding and one on one support for training to eligible businesses in Northern BC.

The goal is to help you grow your business!

You will be Taking Care of Business with your own membership in the program.  As an approved member, you will have access to free online workshops and webinars, professional business support, and you will have completed the first step of the application process for up to $7500 in customized business training.

BC Business Match Program

BC Business Match helps entrepreneurs and their families to find the right business for their skills and interests, and relocate from large urban centers. It’s an initiative  designed to sustain and grow the local economies of non-metropolitan BC  communities and is spearheaded by Community Futures, a non-profit organization with offices throughout BC.

Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF) Expansion

Big changes to the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF).

Since Western Diversification launched it on May 13, 2020, the RRRF has protected over 33,500 jobs in Western Canada and supported almost 7,400 businesses and organizations, of which nearly 45 percent are located in rural areas and 30 percent are owned by women.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Over $800 million available for western Canadian small businesses unable to access other federal pandemic support programs, an increase of over $250 million.
  • Up to $60,000 of liquidity support to cover eligible COVID-related losses, an increase of $20,000.
  • Up to 12 months of liquidity support to cover eligible COVID-related losses from April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021, an increase of six months.
  • Twenty-five percent of all RRRF funding is earmarked for the hard-hit tourism and hospitality sector.
